Ingredients

  • ½ cup sugar
  • cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ¼ cup cornstarch
  • teaspoon salt
  • 2 ¾ cups milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions 

  1. In a saucepan, combine sugar, cocoa, cornstarch, and salt. Gradually add milk, whisking until smooth.
  2. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture boils and thickens. Boil for 1 minute.
  3. Remove from heat. Stir in butter and vanilla. Pour into serving bowls.
  4. Let cool slightly before serving, or refrigerate until chilled.
