Shoo Fly Pie
A classic Pennsylvania Dutch dessert, Shoo Fly Pie is a molasses pie with a crumb topping.

Crumb Topping
- 1 cup flour
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ¼ cup butter cold, cut into small pieces
Filling
- 1 cup molasses
- ¾ cup hot water
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- 1 large egg beaten
- 1 unbaked pie crust
Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
In a mixing bowl, combine flour and brown sugar. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Set aside.
In another bowl, combine molasses, hot water, and baking soda. Stir in the beaten egg.
Pour the molasses mixture into the unbaked pie crust. Sprinkle the crumb mixture evenly over the top.
Bake for 15 minutes at 400°F (200°C), then reduce the heat to 350°F (175°C) and bake for an additional 30 minutes, or until the filling is set and the top is golden brown.
Allow the pie to cool completely before serving.
